Palaces and Churches

„German Rome“ that was Munich’s  name in the 17th Century because of its splendid churches: the Cathedral with its onion-shaped towers that have become the landmark of Munich, Old St. Peter’s, the private Asam Church, and the Church of the Theatines – just to mention a few. They bear witness to centuries of religious feelings and also to the building styles from gothic to rococo that were the vehicles for religious expression.

Secular art can be discovered in our palaces and residences in and around Munich. Thanks to the art loving Bavarian rulers of the Wittelsbach dynasty we have a number of fine examples of representative castles, intimate villas and a splendid summer palace, called Nymphenburg.
